Meet The Maker: Claude Bridal Studio

Be Inspired by our Kent Wedding Suppliers who make and sell their own Products!

In this “Meet The Maker” Interview we are pleased to introduce you to Kent Wedding Supplier, Claude Bridal Studio.

Hi, I'm Emma

Firstly, Tell Us About Yourself

I’m a mum of two young kids Sylvia, 3 and George, 18 months, and married to Oliver. We live by the sea here in Whitstable and I’m enjoying starting my new business working in my lovely, if not slightly chaotic, home studio.

Tell Us About Claude Bridal Studio

In my home studio in Whitstable, I design and make by hand contemporary wedding accessories such as veils, belts, sashes, capes and veil combs as well as offering a bespoke service. I also love providing items for styled inspirational photo shoots and look forward to being part of some styled shoots in the future, hopefully working with local photographers, venues, stylists, models and makers.

When did you start Claude Bridal Studio, how and why?

Claude Bridal Studio is a really young business, launched in Summer 2020. After graduating from uni, I spent 15 happy years working as an Assistant Costume Designer for film and telly but after I had my 2 lovely kids Sylv and George, I found the film industry a difficult industry to remain in. I love working though and wanted to continue my working in a creative way so I started dreaming of having my own wedding business and now its an obsession. I love the idea of designing and making beautiful pieces inspired by all the things I learnt from working in costume, working with gorgeous fabrics, focusing on interesting details and techniques and working with clients to create one off pieces that are as unique and special as they are.

What Products do you offer?

I design and make veils, veil combs, belts, sashes, and capes which are all available at my Etsy shop. I also offer a bespoke service, so if you are inspired by something you have seen from Claude Bridal Studio but you haven’t quite seen exactly what you want, or you have something in mind and you want to turn it from imagination into something you can wear on your wedding day then you can contact me for a chat and we can work together to create the most perfect design for your special day.

To create a collection of products, I tend to come up with a theme taking inspiration from amazing photographers like Tim Walker or Deborah Turberville, from period costume, or from my eternal muse Marilyn Monroe. I then test out different embroidery samples and colour pallets until the idea takes shape and that becomes the theme of a whole collection. I like to work with silk, tulle sequins and beads. I want Claude Bridal Studio to be as ethical and sustainable as I can make it, so for the Clarence collection I used Bamboo silk which is absolutely lovely and I get the sequins from the one remaining sequin factory in England. I am also looking to source original period fabrics to make one off garments, I like the idea of restoring beautiful fabrics to make modern garments for modern brides.

What is your favourite Product?

I don’t have a specific favourite product but I will always have a soft spot for the cherry blossom belt from the Blossoms collection. This belt is the finished product of my first sketches and embroidery trials before Claude Bridal Studio even existed..

How many people work with you?

Claude Bridal Studio is a one women band so just me, although I often bend the ear of my sister Natalie @milkteeth_design for her advice on anything from graphics to social media. It’s lovely being your own boss, but you need someone to bounce ideas off and Natalie is always my first port of call. Its also handy when you can rope your sisters into modelling for you….
