At the beginning of your wedding planning journey the focus is always on the bridal gown, with the groom attire being a little bit of an afterthought, however finding suits can usually be ticked of the wedding planning checklist relatively easily.

Your first consideration is do you hire or buy the suits, and the answer to this will very much be dependent on whether you will wear this suit again and the style of suit that you’re thinking of purchasing. If you do decide to hire a suit, allocate a member of the wedding party to return them after the wedding.

There is a large choice of suits available for the groom, best man, ushers, and page boys, from traditional morning suits to black tie, and from lounge suits to highland dress, you’re bound to find something to suit your wedding style.

Morning Suits are normally a blue, black, or grey tailcoat worn with pain or striped trousers with a white wing-collared shirt, a waistcoat, cravat, top hat and gloves. Traditionally morning suits are only worn for weddings that take place before 3pm.

Black Tie or Dinner Suits are an excellent choice for a more formal wedding. The attire normally consists of a black dinner jacket with tapered trousers with braces, a pleated front shirt with a turn-down collar, and a black bow tie.

Lounge Suits consist of a single- or double-breasted jacket with matching trousers, a plain shirt, and an optional tie. They are ideal for a more relaxed wedding, perhaps for a wedding with a summer garden party theme or bohemian theme.

Highland Dress is usually worn when the groom has strong Scottish connections, and consist of a kilt, a Bonnie Prince Charlie jacket or doublet, a sporran, laced brogues, socks, jabot (frill), cuff and skean dhu (a small dagger in the sock).
