Why should I get my Wedding Dress cleaned after my big day?

There are plenty of options available for your wedding dress after your big day, some may decide to donate it, or sell it, others may choose to repurpose it, some may even trash it! However, many brides will choose to preserve it, as a reminder of the best day of their lives! If you want to ensure that your dress stays in the best possible condition, preservation is key, without having your dress cleaned, you can risk the following:

Therefore, it is so important to factor in cleaning and preservation into your budget. You may be able to find a regular dry cleaner who also offer wedding dress cleaning, however it is best to find a profession, as it’s important to get your dress cleaned with the right products.

If you choose to also preserve your dress, after getting it cleaned, they are typically stored in an airtight box where the oxygen has been sucked out and replaced with nitrogen, to prevent oxidisation. This can happen to clothes which are stored for several years.

Alternatively, once the wedding dress has been professionally cleaned, store you dress in a cool, dark place, avoiding direct sunlight as that can cause the dress to fade and turn yellow. Whatever you do, avoid storing it in a regular plastic, zip-up bag, as plastic holds moisture and potentially discolour the dress.

If you can, its best to get your dress to a cleaner the very next day, and if you’re jetting off for your honeymoon, arrange for a bridesmaid or mum to take it for.
