Finding Your Dream Honeymoon Destination

Blog by Married In Kent

Your honeymoon is undoubtably going to be the most memorable holiday you and your partner will go on, and so, choosing the right destination will play a big part in making it everything you dreamed of. We have come up with a small guide to make it easier for you and your partner to find your dream honeymoon destination.

Your Budget

Without setting a budget first, I think we all know what will happen, you will set the bar too high with your choice and then be a little heartbroken when it can’t happen. You and your partner both need to decide on a number that is affordable for you, and if you haven’t allocated your honeymoon budget within your wedding budget, maybe rather than asking your wedding guests for gifts you could create a honeymoon gift list instead.

Make a Dream Destinations List

We would recommend for you and your partner, separately, to write a list of all the places you would like to visit. When you’re done, you can then go through your lists together and see if you both have any of the same places or destinations. If you have got the same or similar places, then you are off to a good start!

The Type of Honeymoon You Want

This is where you may both need to compromise. You want this trip to be fun for the both of you, but you need to be mindful that you and your partner may have different ideas about that. There are plenty of different trip styles, such as, a typical beach honeymoon (sun, sand, sea and cocktails), skiing holiday, city break, touring holiday or safari. A list might help again here, and you can always combine the type of holiday that you want.

The Dates

Although you will probably want to go on your honeymoon straight after your wedding, you need to take into consideration two important factors when choosing your dates. Number 1 is the price, the season you choose to travel in can seriously affect the pricing, and seasons differ in each country. Number 2 is the weather, once you have picked your destination, research the weather, as if you choose to travel straight after your wedding this may fall into the destination’s monsoon or hurricane season.

Duration

There isn’t a set time frame for your honeymoon, and the duration of your trip will be completely up to you. You may need to consider the following factors, how long you can get off work and what is affordable. The duration that you set yourselves may also impact your destination, for example if you can only get 5 days off work you may decide to travel a little closer to home, such as somewhere in Europe.

You’re Allowed More Than One

Yes, you heard us right, you are not limited to one honeymoon (unless that’s all your budget can afford). Many couples choose to have a staycation right after their wedding, and then wait a few months or a year before going on their main honeymoon. This could be an option if you are having difficulty with the season you are getting married in and the destination you have chosen, or if you are struggling to get the time off work.
